Leon County Buckmasters Send Young Hunter to Herradura Ranch
By Rose Henson
Cody Sitton was the lucky recipient of a doe management hunt at Herradura Ranch in South Texas. This hunt was purchased for the young hunter by his grandfather, John Sitton of Jewett, Texas during the 2007 Leon County Buckmasters American Deer Foundation annual banquet.
The Herradura Ranch has donated the hunt for the chapter's live auction two years in a row.
John Sitton, Cody's father Robert, and Cody arrived at the ranch Feb. 1, 2008. The guide wanted Cody to shoot a few practice targets to see how accurate he was. After one shot, the guide looked through the spotting scope and stated that Cody didn't need any more practice.
The group immediately went to a stand and Cody bagged his deer.
The guide gave Cody a chance to take another doe or a hog during the hunt. They drove around the ranch that evening and again the next morning, but didn't see another animal. Robert commented that Herradura is a very nice place and that the food was fantastic.
The guides at the Herradura really seem to take an interest in the youth. They enjoy talking with them and have a lot of patience. Congratulations, Cody!
